Nicole Levine was born and raised in Arken City. She enlisted in the Army National Guard to help her pay for college and medical school, and after graduation Nicole started her residency at Hopewell Hospital in Arken City. One night her roommate Brooke Wilson, a technician at Jericho Inc., never came home from work. Nicole waited a few days then called the police. The police just gave her the runaround by telling her they will file a missing person’s report, but they could not guarantee anything. Taking matters into her own hands Nicole broke into Jericho Inc. to investigate. She stumbled upon a project filing room and discovered that Brooke was caught leaking secret information to the FBI: Special Investigations Unit. As punishment Brooke become a test subject in an experimental project know as Project: Courtesan. During the process a female subject is placed into a stasis pod, the subject’s body is physically changed into the perfect female body, and the subject’s mind is erased and reprogrammed to serve an assigned master, usually Jericho Inc. executives and in-pocket politicians.

Soon after her discovery Nicole too was caught, and as punishment Darien Jericho sentenced her as test subject for Project: Courtesan. As technicians started the Courtesan process the building was under siege by Crimson Dawn and the Failed Experiments. During the assult a power surge disrupted the process. Nicole's body had changed, but her mind had not been erased and she gained the ability to channel the light into energy projections. Crimson Dawn found Nicole trapped in the statis pod and helped her escape. Like the rest of the Failed Experiments unable to go back to her old life she decided to join Crimson Dawn and his band of misfits.
